Philadelphia man pleads guilty in motel search drug, gun case

HOLLIDAYSBURG -- A Philadelphia man found in March at a local motel with drugs and a handgun rendered guilty pleas Monday in Blair County Court for a sentence to be imposed in December by Judge Jackie Bernard.

Tahed Saeed, 24, rendered pleas to felony counts of possession with intent to deliver heroin/fentanyl, possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and illegal possession of a firearm. Saeed also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor counts possession of drug paraphernalia and providing false identification to law enforcement.

Bernard announced sentencing as slated for Dec. 15, after completion of a presentence investigation.

In court Monday, defense attorney Mark Zearfaus told the judge that Saeed, who was scheduled to select a jury for an upcoming trial, would instead enter the guilty pleas for a sentence to be imposed by the judge.

Zearfaus said Saeed rejected a plea offer with 5.5 years' incarceration that District Attorney Pete Weeks proposed.

Before Bernard imposes a sentence, both Saeed and Weeks will have the opportunity to offer input.

Logan Township police arrested Saheed on March 14 after a search of his motel room at the Econo Lodge identified the illegal drugs, a handgun and drug paraphernalia. Since his arrest, Saeed has remained in the Blair County Prison with bail set at $50,000 cash, according to online court records.
