Man arrested after stolen gun found

A city man was arrested Saturday after an early morning fight at Nittany Pointe.

Logan Township police were called when two victims were reportedly beat up after someone backing up a vehicle almost ran over one of the victim’s feet. The victim yelled at the vehicle in the 400 lot at Nittany Pointe about 12:57 a.m. and several people exited the vehicle, including Aaron James Menegay, 21, according to the complaint.

Menegay and others started to hit the victim who had yelled, and when the other victim tried to intervene, he, too, was struck several times.

Menegay allegedly was holding a gun and said, “I’m going to shoot you right now” and “I have a gun,” one of the victims reported. A witness also told police that two males were hitting the victims and that Menegay had a gun.

Police located the vehicle at the 25th Avenue Sheetz and detained Menegay and another man. During a search of Menegay, police found a loaded 9 mm Beretta handgun in his right pant leg near his ankle. A check of the registration number found the gun was reported stolen.

Menegay was arraigned Saturday morning before Magisterial District Judge Fred B. Miller on a felony charge of receiving stolen property, misdemeanor charges of simple assault and carrying a firearm without a license and a summary charge of harassment. Unable to post $35,000 bail, he was remanded to the Blair County Prison. His preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 6 before Magisterial District Judge Matthew Dunio.

According to a post on the Logan Township Police Department’s Facebook page, three stolen firearms were located and removed from the streets in the past two weeks by Logan Township officers while handling other incidents.
