Earlier Wednesday, Altoona firefighters responded to a call for a gas leak caused by workers who hit a line while digging around a utility pole on Beale Avenue near 24th Street, according to Interim Fire Chief Adam Free.
"We showed up and secured the scene until People's Natural Gas" employees arrived to repair the leak, Free said. The call came at 8:40 a.m., Free said.
