State, local police conduct DUI detail

The Pennsylvania State Police, along with municipal and regional police, conducted a two-day detail, Operation Nighthawk, on Aug. 12-13, marking the statewide enforcement initiative’s 20th anniversary.

During the detail to curb DUI driving, troopers made contact with 6,286 motorists and made 492 DUI arrests. In addition, 2,219 citations were issued, along with 4,051 warnings. There were 279 other criminal arrests made during the campaign.

In the region, Troop G officers made 512 contact and 36 DUI arrests. Troopers also made eight driving while DUI suspended arrests, issued 105 citations and 306 warnings. Troopers made 24 other criminal arrests and served 10 warrants.

More than 400 troopers and over 200 municipal police officers were involved in the two-day operation across the state.

“Over the past 20 years, Operation Nighthawk has been extremely successful at getting impaired drivers off the roads,” said Col. Robert Evanchick, state police commissioner. “We are grateful to our municipal and regional police partners who share our zero-tolerance approach to this serious crime.”
