Felon faces weapons charge
A Tyrone man is behind bars after being charged with possessing a firearm prohibited and unlawful restraint, among other charges.
Howard Lenale Wright, 42, was arraigned Thursday before Magisterial District Judge Fred B. Miller on a felony charge of possessing a firearm and two misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats and simple assault along with a misdemeanor count each of unlawful restraint and possessing an instrument of crime.
Unable to post $175,000 bail, he was remanded to the Blair County Prison. His preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 6 before Miller.
According to court documents, police were called to the Blair Avenue area of Tyrone on Tuesday for a report of a suspicious male that matched Wright's description, but were unable to locate him.
Later that night at a home on the 1200 block of Blair Avenue, Wright got into an argument with a female victim and complained about police looking for him. During the argument, Wright allegedly went upstairs and came back down with a dark colored pistol, pointed it at the victim and whispered, "I'll kill you." Wright then demanded she go upstairs with him. The victim's mother was in fear for her daughter's life and yelled at her to come downstairs, police stated.
During the incident, Wright allegedly pointed the gun toward the mother and said he would kill her.
Another resident of the home told police Wright has a Glock pistol and a Smith & Wesson coming to him. In addition, Wright allegedly has a CO2 air pistol.
Wright is a felon not to possess a firearm due to multiple convictions from Delaware that make him ineligible to have a firearm in Pennsylvania, police reported. Wright's convictions include a 2007 guilty plea to felony burglary and carrying a concealed deadly weapon and a 2001 plea to felony robbery.
Tyrone woman arrested on warrants
A Tyrone woman wanted on several warrants was taken into custody Tuesday after officers with the Blair County Sheriff's Office threatened to kick in her door.
According to court records, Lori Nichole Rhodes, 43, had multiple warrants for her arrest, including failure to appear and a parole violation, both felonies, as well as a cost and fines warrant through the Blair County Sheriff's Office.
When officers arrived at her Meade Street home, she allegedly closed and locked the door to avoid apprehension and stop police from entering the home. Despite knocking several times, Rhodes refused to answer the door, police stated. Looking through the windows, police could see no one inside, but an officer could hear a male and female talking upstairs because a window was open on the second floor.
After a few minutes, Rhodes went downstairs to the kitchen and an officer could see her through the window next to the front door. When the officer yelled "Lori," she responded with "What." At that point, the officer told her to "open the front door or I'm going to kick it in." Rhodes was taken into custody without further incident, police reported.
She was arraigned Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Andrew L. Blattenberger on a felony charge of flight to avoid apprehension and a misdemeanor charge of obstructing an officer. Unable to post $30,000 bail, she was remanded to the Blair County Prison. Her preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Fred B. Miller.
