Hollidaysburg man killed in crash
A Hollidaysburg man was killed in a Wednesday morning crash in Huntingdon County.
Eric W. Turner, 49, was killed when the 2005 Ford F-150 XLT he was operating eastbound on William Penn Highway crossed over the center line and hit head-on a westbound 2020 Freightliner Cascadia operated by Mathew A. Stahl, 34, of Mercersburg.
The accident occurred about 5:33 a.m. in Smithfield Township, police reported. Stahl was not injured.
Police find man dead after standoff
A reported standoff in Snyder Township, Blair County, Wednesday night ended when police breached the Scotts Lane residence and found a 51-year-old Tyrone man dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
State police were dispatched to the home about 3:14 p.m. for a report of an armed individual at his residence. When police arrived, the man barricaded himself inside the residence, according to a police report.
Police established a safety perimeter, closing area roads. The Special Emergency Response Team was activated, as well, police reported. After several hours, police entered the residence and found the victim deceased, according to the report.
Construction accident claims worker
State College police and Centre County Coroner Scott Sayers confirmed that a worker was killed in an accident at a construction site on Thursday.
Emergency responders were called to the Days Inn building, 240 S. Pugh St., in downtown State College for a report of a construction accident.
A man died after he fell five stories from an open window, according to State College police.
The building is in the process of being torn down for construction. State College police said the preliminary investigation suggests the fall appeared to be accidental.
Woman accused of fleeing officer
A Duncansville woman faces charges of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer after she failed to stop for police.
According to court documents, Tina Shaw, 46, was seen driving while on a suspended license by Logan Township police about 9:10 p.m. Saturday.
Shaw told police she was homeless and her belongings were in the vehicle. Police told Shaw that she would receive a citation in the mail and that she would have to walk home because her license was suspended.
At 9:30 p.m., Shaw was spotted driving the vehicle on East Pleasant Valley Boulevard. When an officer turned on his lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop, Shaw could be seen waving and sticking her middle finger up, refusing to stop the vehicle, police reported.
She ultimately stopped at Sheetz in Greenwood and was taken into custody.
She was arraigned Sunday by Magisterial District Judge Matthew Dunio on a misdemeanor charge of fleeing police and a summary charge of driving while operating privileges are suspended.
She was released on unsecured $5,000 bail. Her preliminary hearing is set for July 14 in front of Dunio.
