Pizza Hut proposal receives green light

Restaurant slated to open in Duncansville

DUNCANSVILLE — Blair County Planning Commission members Thursday gave a positive review for plans for a new Pizza Hut restaurant at Third Avenue and Sixth Street in Duncansville.

Plans call for improvements to an existing commercial building and parking lot owned by Penn Oxford Plaza LLC for the addition of the restaurant. Site improvements include reconfiguration of the parking lot, addition of a drive through window and landscaping improvements.

No changes to site access are proposed in the plan, with ingress to the site from Third Avenue (Route 22) while egress is onto Sixth Street, continuing the same traffic flow pattern as previously, said MacKenize L. Caron, community planner.

No additional parking is proposed.

“We do not anticipate any issues with regard to the number of parking spaces, however, we do recommend the inclusion of at least one additional handicap accessible space,” Caron said.

The landscaping plan provided by the developer shows the inclusion of burning bush.

The state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources classifies that plant as an invasive species.

“We recommend the substitution of burning bush with a native alternative such as red chokeberry or common winterberry,” Caron said.

Caron also said the addition of Pizza Hut will generate increased vehicle traffic at the site but the added traffic shouldn’t be enough to require a transportation impact study.
