Driver charged in crash with police
A Bedford driver was charged after he failed to yield the right of way to an unmarked police vehicle about 9:42 a.m. Sunday, causing a crash, according to state police.
Cameron J. Hagenbuch, 18, was operating a 2008 Honda Accord west on East Watson Street and stopped at the intersection with South Richard Street. He then began to go through the intersection and drove into the path of a 2018 Ford Taurus X unmarked police vehicle operated by Troy D. Nelson, 49, of Bedford. The officer was traveling north on South Richard Street in pursuit of another vehicle, according to police.
Nelson was taken by Raystown Ambulance to UPMC Bedford for treatment of unspecified injuries. Hagenbuch suffered a suspected minor injury in the crash that left both vehicles disabled, with the Honda on the sidewalk, police reported.
Hagenbuch was cited for failing to yield the right of way.
APD reminds of telephone scam
The Altoona Police Department is warning residents of a telephone scam using the exact names of past and present officers from the department.
The police department "will never call you over the phone asking for any type of donation or stating that a family member needs to post bail," the department posted on its Facebook page. "Please do not offer any pertinent information and simply hang up the phone if you receive one of these calls," the post reads.
