Blair in low COVID-19 transmission range

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the level of community transmission for COVID-19 in Blair County is low, based on case rate, new admissions per capita and the percentage of hospitalized COVID patients.

Blair is among a sea of low-transmission counties clustered in the south-central and southwest of the state.

There are a few high transmission counties around Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Erie, plus a horizontal band of high transmission counties just north of center, starting at New Jersey and stretching halfway to Ohio.

The rest are medium transmission counties -- the closest of which is Centre.

The case or incidence rate for Blair is 160 new cases per 100,000 residents in the past week, according to the CDC.

The state rate 188 new cases per 100,000 residents.

The new COVID admissions rate per 100,000 residents for Blair is 8.6, lower than the statewide rate of 9.7.

Test positivity for Blair County for the most recent week was 7.5 percent -- about half of the 14.1 percent statewide, according to the state Department of Health.

Blair's vaccination rate for people 5 and up is 55 percent -- far worse than the state's 73 percent.

Despite Blair's designation as a low-transmission county, deaths from There have been 13 COVID deaths since May 5.

The death rate per 100,000 residents for Blair for the week ending Thursday is 3.2.
