A Manns Choice man faces charges after he allegedly assaulted a man during an argument at a residence along Rear Packer Street, Johnstown.
Trevor Allen Layton, 19, was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Susan M. Gindlesperger on felony charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor charge of simple assault.
Police said a caller reported on Wednesday that Layton was threatening the family with knives.
When an officer arrived, a male who was bleeding excessively from his head flagged him down, according to an affidavit of probable cause. He directed the officer to the address and pointed out the defendant, who was in the yard of the residence pacing.
Layton complied with the officer's order to lie down with his hands out.
When asked what was going on, Layton stated he had asked the victim to care for his pet gecko while Layton was away. Layton stated the victim would not do so, so he confronted him.
Layton challenged the victim to a knife fight and threw items at him. The officer observed shattered items and knives about the floor, as well as additional blood.
Another male, who was present, stated he was there helping the victim do work in the attic. The confrontation began when the victim went downstairs for something.
The second male got between Layton and the victim as Layton was throwing items and attempting to stab the victim, the affidavit states.
Layton threw a thick candle jar at the victim, causing a severe laceration.
The victim fled toward the road, and the second male attempted to calm Layton down. Layton was unable to post 10% of $30,000 cash bail and was remanded to the Cambria County Prison. He is scheduled to appear before Judge Gindlesperger for a preliminary hearing May 18.
