Hazardous materials training planned
Blair County’s Department of Emergency Services is expected to resume hazardous materials training exercises this year for local responders.
The county signed a contract with MCM Consulting Group Inc. for training in 2021 that wasn’t completed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Commissioners voted Thursday to rescind the 2021 contracts and approve new contracts for 2022 with MCM Consulting.
Based on the approvals, the cost of a countywide hazardous materials transportation incident exercise will be $3,447, with $2,758 to be covered by state Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness grant funds and with $689 to be covered by the county’s Local Emergency Planning Committee fund.
For a hazardous incident tabletop exercise and training session, the cost will be $11,474, with $9,179 to be covered by state Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness grant funds and $2,294 to be paid by the county’s Local Emergency Planning Committee funds.
Both training exercises are to be completed by Sept. 30.
