AASD gives update on December cyber attack

From Mirror staff reports

The Altoona Area School District issued a press release with updates regarding a December cyber attack.

In March, the district identified current and former employees and their dependents whose personal and health information was potentially leaked. Those potentially impacted were notified April 1.

The incident occurred Dec. 2 when access to certain systems was disrupted by a security breach.

Information obtained includes names, dates of birth, contact information, Social Security numbers, insurance information and, in some cases, medical treatment or diagnostic information.

According to the release, the district does not store personal credit card information or student Social Security numbers on its servers.

The district created a toll-free number for questions and concerns at 1-833-648-2053. It is open between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

In the release, the district said it “deeply regrets any inconvenience or concern this incident may cause.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
