Tyrone man facing several drug charges
From Mirror staff reports
A Tyrone man was arrested Friday on drug charges after a traffic stop.
Aaron Michael Gurekovich, 27, was arraigned Saturday before Magisterial District Judge Andrew L. Blattenberger on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver, and misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said the incident occurred at 6:45 p.m. Friday when Gurekovich allegedly was acting suspiciously while driving from the Rodeway Inn lot as police were conducting surveillance. The area along Orchard Avenue is a high drug trafficking area, according to a criminal complaint.
Police followed Gurekovich, who traveled 82 mph northbound on I-99. When police activated the cruiser’s lights to make a traffic stop, Gurekovich continued down the ramp at the Pinecroft exit before eventually pulling over, court documents state.
Upon being pulled over, Gurekovich was visibly nervous and sweating, and police found a handgun in the vehicle.
Gurekovich stated that the gun was a BB gun he used for protection.
In moving the gun, officers also found a digital scale and a glass methamphetamine pipe. Police also found $1,082 in Gurekovich’s pocket.
A K9 drug sniff of the car was made, with the dog alerting on the driver door and the back passenger door.
After receiving a search warrant, police found a glass skull bong, a blue iPhone, a box of assorted drug paraphernalia, a plastic container of suspected meth, a digital scale, a plastic tube containing nine schedule 3 pills, a metal container of suspected cocaine and a small bag of suspected meth, according to the report. All the items were found in a backpack, court documents state.
Unable to post $60,000 cash bail, Gurekovich was remanded to the Blair County Prison.
He is scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Matthew Dunio for a preliminary hearing April 7.
