Pair accused of child endangerment
A Claysburg couple face charges after they allegedly abused three children.
Joseph Myrl Gilliam, 54, and Rebekah Elisabeth Gilliam, 38, were arraigned before Magisterial Judge Andrew L. Blattenberger Thursday on felony counts of endangering the welfare of children.
Police said they became aware of instances of child abuse allegedly committed on or about Feb. 22 when a Greenfield Township police officer was investigating a report of an assault on a child.
Three children were interviewed at the Children Advocate Center and detailed the alleged abuse, court documents state.
Joseph reportedly struck one of the children with a crossbow, which Rebekah was allegedly made aware of, though a criminal complaint said she never reported it and that the child never received medical attention for an injury suffered in the incident.
The children also alleged that Joseph pushed them and threw tools at them.
Questioned by police, Rebekah stated that Joseph has struck the children before, including with a cane, and she added that he has thrown objects at them, too.
Joseph denied striking the children with the cane but admitted to throwing a basket at them. He also admitted to "tapping" the children with the cane, according to the complaint.
Both defendants are scheduled to appear before Blattenberger for preliminary hearings April 7.
Police charge two with selling drugs
A Houtzdale man and a Martinsburg woman face charges after they allegedly sold drugs to a confidential informant.
Korey Cortez Sitton, 36, and Kimberly Iris Meyers, 21, were arraigned Thursday before Magisterial District Judge Paula M. Aigner on felony charges of possession with intent to deliver. Sitton faces an additional felony count of criminal use of a communication facility.
Police said the incident occurred Feb. 2 when officers encountered a vehicle, driven by Meyers with Sitton in the passenger seat, in an Allegheny Township parking lot. A confidential informant made contact with Sitton, who allegedly sold a small plastic bag of fentanyl and heroin to the informant for $200.
Sitton was unable to post $75,000 bail and was remanded to the Blair County Prison, while Meyers posted $25,000 bail.
Both are scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge Matthew Dunio for preliminary hearings March 31.
