CLEARFIELD -- A DuBois man is in custody after allegedly shooting and killing a man he said was having an affair with his wife.

DuBois City Police were called to a parking lot on South Franklin Street about 4:16 p.m. Thursday to investigate a report of a man shot in the head.

According to the affidavit, Glen "Chet" Chester Johnston, who lives near the police station, was identified as the suspect. Officers made contact with Johnston's wife, who then received a call from Johnston. She put the call on speaker to allow the police to hear him.

When she asked him if he shot the victim, Jude Srock, 46, also of DuBois, he reportedly replied, "yes" and said that he loved her but had "messed up." He stated he would be going to jail for the rest of his life, before adding that he was going to kill himself.

After she reassured him that she was going to stand by him, she told him to come home. He responded that he was on the way.

Johnston asked to speak to an officer telling him that he was going to turn himself in to authorities. He then requested that they not shoot him. The officer told him they didn't want anyone else to get hurt, and Johnston agreed to surrender.

State police pulled him over at Route 119 and Stanley Road, where he was taken into custody.

"Johnston made the spontaneous utterance to troopers that he shot that man because he was having an affair with his wife," the affidavit states.

During his interview with investigators at the police station, he said his wife admitted to the affair earlier that day and he decided he was going to speak with Srock.

He traveled to Srock's home where he accosted Srock in a parking lot.

Johnston said he got out of his vehicle and walked toward Srock saying, "Are we going to talk about this now?"

"Johnston said that Srock became puff-chested and said he wasn't going to talk to a guy that couldn't even take care of his own wife," according to the report.

This angered Johnston so he pulled the revolver from his right pants pocket and the gun accidentally discharged into the ground.

Johnston told police that Srock then said, "What are you going to do, shoot me?" Johnston allegedly raised the gun and shot him in the head. He then fled the scene, police reported.

Toward the end of questioning, Johnston reportedly became emotional after learning the victim was dead and referred to himself as "a (expletive) murderer."

Johnston is charged with criminal homicide, two counts each of aggravated and simple assault as well as recklessly endangering another person.

He is being held in the Clearfield County Jail without bail with a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 25.
