A man with no fixed address faces charges after he allegedly threw signs at vehicles and assaulted multiple people Sunday at a Sixth Avenue store.
Carlos Luis Ortiz, 47, was arraigned Monday before Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. DeAntonio on felony charges of aggravated assault and criminal trespass, as well as misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats, simple assault, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.
Police said the incident occurred Sunday when Ortiz allegedly terrorized patrons and a manager at Nic's Grab and Go on Sixth Avenue.
According to a criminal complaint, Ortiz threw plastic advertising signs at vehicles and kicked one, striking a person in the leg, the complaint said. He also is accused of threatening to shoot a victim, breaking the side mirror off a vehicle, assaulting the manager when asked to leave and entering the store and yelling at occupants, striking the manager again and punching another victim in the face with a closed fist.
Police said Ortiz finally fled the area, heading toward 10th Street, where he was located on the fire escape of a residence. He allegedly threw various objects, including a toilet and a can of paint at officers before forcing entry into the residence, where was arrested.
Ortiz was unable to post bail set at $50,000 and was remanded to the Blair County Prison.
He is scheduled to appear before Judge DeAntonio for a preliminary hearing April 6.
