Police respond when individuals seen entering burned-out home

1 min read

Altoona police responded Wednesday to the site of a fatal Tuesday fire after two people were seen in the home.

The home, which was ruled a total loss, was taped off with police tape that stated "Do not cross."

Officers responded about noon to reports of neighbors sifting through the Stuart residence and allegedly taking items from the building.

Two unnamed individuals, a male and female, were observed entering the building through a broken first floor window and throwing items from the house through a window, including a bicycle, a bucket and a bag of dog food.

Several area residents were yelling at the individuals inside, stating, "you shouldn't be in there" and "someone had just died in there last night."

When officers arrived, the female told police that she was a neighbor and was only taking a few items that were "sentimental" to her.

Neither of the individuals were taken into custody, and officials from the Altoona Police Department could not be reached for comment.
