Orbisonia man faces attempted homicide charge
Swanger
An Orbisonia man was arrested on attempted homicide charges after an early Friday morning shooting in Huntingdon County.
Bail has been denied for Dustin Charles Swanger, 30, who is accused of shooting two people about 1:29 a.m. at a residence along Blacklog Valley Road, Cromwell Township.
According to state police at Huntingdon, Swanger fled the residence after the incident and as officers were en route, the suspect vehicle was located and a pursuit began.
The pursuit continued several miles until Swanger’s vehicle became disabled. He was taken into police custody after he failed to dislodge the vehicle, according to a report.
During the investigation, police said multiple individuals were identified as victims, two of whom sustained gunshot wounds. No information on their injuries was available.
Swanger is charged with six counts of attempted criminal homicide as well as multiple counts of aggravated assault-attempts to cause serious bodily injury or causes injury with extreme indifference, aggravated assault-attempts to cause or causes bodily injury with a deadly weapon, possessing instrument of crime with intent, terrorist threats, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, unlawful restraint/serious bodily injury, false imprisonment, carrying a loaded weapon, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, operating a vehicle while license is suspended or revoked and driving an unregistered vehicle.
A preliminary arraignment was held Friday evening in front of Magisterial District Judge Lisa Marie Covert, and Swanger was remanded to the Huntingdon County Prison.
A preliminary hearing is slated for 11 a.m. Feb. 23 in front of Covert.
According to the court docket, Swanger was denied bail because “no amount of money will ensure the safety of the community. Defendant poses a threat to himself.”
State police were assisted in the investigation by the Huntingdon County District Attorney’s Office and the Huntingdon and Mount Union borough police.
