Man shot in Altoona Sunday

The Altoona Police Department is investigating a shooting Sunday morning that left one person with serious injuries.

Police said a shooting occurred at around 9 a.m. Sunday at a residence on the 1000 block of Sixth Avenue.

A 32-year-old male victim was transported to UPMC Altoona with serious injuries, but he is now in stable condition. Police did not reveal the victim’s name.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and there is no apparent threat to the public at this time.

No further information was made available.

Copper stolen from mill

An investigation is underway by state police after about $20,000 in copper was stolen from a Cambria County lumber mill.

According to a state police report, a skid of copper was allegedly stolen sometime around Jan. 13 from Fred Sherry Lumber in Barr Township, Cambria County.

Police said the pallet of 4-inch wire that spanned 800 feet was allegedly stolen from the business, with the copper valued between $16,000 and $20,000.

The unknown suspects were believed to have used heavy equipment owned by the lumber mill to move the copper.
