Logan welcomes new officer

A graduate of Altoona Area High School and a former part-time Tyrone officer is the newest member of the Logan Township Police Department.

Patrolman Nicholas Starr, 25, hiring was approved Thursday during the Logan Township supervisors meeting.

Starr recently received Act 120 police certification from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Police Academy.

Logan Township Chief of Police David Reese said Starr will undergo a brief training period before taking on his full-time duties.

“We’re really excited to have him on board,” Reese said. “He’s going to go through the training cycle for the next few months and hopefully be ready to go Starr joined the Tyrone Police Department in March as a part-time officer and also became a certified electrician through the Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center.

Prior to his training to become a police officer, Starr also attended Penn State for psychology.

Reese urges residents to become acquainted with Starr if they see him working within the community.

“We believe he’s going to be a tremendous asset to our department,” Reese said.
