Schmitt hosts document shredding event

1 min read

Rep. Lou Schmitt, R-Blair, will host a Shredding with Schmitt event so constituents can have important documents shredded for free. The shredding event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at People's Natural Gas Field, 1000 Park Ave., Altoona.

"One of the easiest ways to deter identity theft is to destroy documents that contain important information, such as a person's full name, address, bank account information and Social Security number," Schmitt said. "This event provides residents with a means to safely destroy these documents so they don't fall into the wrong hands."

Residents are encouraged to bring documents that contain credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, medical information and bank account information to be shredded. Residents are asked to bring papers and documents in loose form. Magazines, books or trash will not be accepted. The event is for residents only, not businesses.

Donations for the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society will be accepted during the event.
