COVID-19: Transmission remains high

All six local counties remain in the high transmission category for COVID-19 this week, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website on Friday.

All six qualify for high transmission because their incidence rates — the number of new cases in the past week per 100,000 residents — are at least 100.

Bedford and Huntingdon counties also qualify because their test positivity rates are at least 10 percent.

Both the incidence rate and the positivity rate in Bedford County are higher than the other local counties.

The highest number of COVID deaths in the past week, however, was in Cambria County, where there were 11.

The highest number of new cases was in Cambria County, while the highest percentage increase in new cases was in Huntingdon County.

The CDC statistics:

* Blair County: 431 new cases, up 27 percent; 353 incidence rate; 9.41 percent positivity; 45 new hospital admissions; 14 percent of hospital beds used; 38 percent of ICU beds used; 51 percent of eligible residents fully vaccinated.

* Bedford County: high transmission; 299 new cases, up 12 percent; 624 incidence rate; 20.21 percent positivity; 5 new hospital admissions; 41 percent of hospital beds used; 38 percent of eligible residents fully vaccinated.
