Flinton woman dies from gunshot
A Punkin Ridge Road, Clearfield County, man is charged with murder after a Flinton woman was found unresponsive and later died in North Carolina.
According to WITN in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, investigators were called to the Quality Inn on South Hughes Boulevard about 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 26, after a woman was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound to her head.
Jacqueline Marie Castel, 54, of Flinton, was taken to Sentara Albemarle Hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died, WITN reported.
Elizabeth City police said John Randall Landry, 52, of Clearfield County, was later charged with Castel’s death. Landry was also served with a fugitive warrant out of Fauquier, Virginia.
Landry is being held without bond on the murder charge and was given a $100,000 bond on the fugitive warrant. Landry had his first court appearance on Tuesday at the Pasquotank County Courthouse.
Castel is survived by her parents, David L. and Judy M. (Berkey) Castel of Duncansville. She was a U.S. Army veteran with more than 22 years of service. She also worked at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C., and the Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona. She was a 2018 graduate of Saint Francis University, Loretto, with a bachelor’s degree in science.
Funeral services are under the direction of the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home, Portage. Military honors will be provided by local veterans organizations.
