Motorcycle accident kills one; hurts another

ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP — A Duncansville woman was killed and another person was injured in a Sunday night motorcycle accident in Cambria County.

Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees said Sierra Farabaugh, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident on Columbia Road, outside of Loretto.

The accident happened about 11:15 p.m. just north of Dutch Road, state police said.

Lees said Farabaugh died of asphyxiation after being crushed underneath the motorcycle.

State police said the motorcycle was traveling northbound when it failed to negotiate a curve and traveled across the yellow line.

The motorcycle struck an embankment, which caused both riders to be ejected from the motorcycle, police said.

Her death was ruled accidental, the coroner said.

The male operating the motorcycle was transported to UPMC Altoona, and his condition is unknown, Lees said.

State police said neither rider was wearing a helmet.

The Loretto Fire Department, Cresson Area EMS and Pennsylvania State Police responded to the scene.
