A Duncansville man is facing felony charges after allegedly stealing more than $5,000 in electricity from Penelec, court documents state.
Pennsylvania State Police filed a single felony theft charge Wednesday against Michael R. Bowmaster, 43, after receiving a tip that Bowmaster was stealing electricity in February.
Penelec service staff accompanied state troopers to Bowmaster's residence on the 200 block of Maple Hollow Road in February and determined the residence was receiving unmetered power, police reported.
When questioned by state troopers, Bowmaster said he discovered he had electricity after leaving prison in December and admitted he wasn't paying for it, a criminal complaint stated.
Bowmaster told police he didn't contact Penelec about receiving free electricity because he was happy to have it, court documents stated.
In March, Penelec valued the stolen electricity at about $5,144, police reported.
Bowmaster's charges are currently awaiting a preliminary hearing with Magisterial District Judge Matthew Dunio, court documents state.
