PATTON -- A series of vehicle thefts shook residents Wednesday morning.
While police said they have identified a potential suspect, the person remains at large.
"This really took everyone by storm," Patton Police Officer Bryan Diehl said. "We are aware and actively investigating this situation."
While he did not release a number, Diehl said there were a "series of vehicle thefts" throughout town.
The majority of thefts were from unlocked vehicles, Diehl said, though there were an unspecified number of cases that involved the looter prying the doors open with "unknown tools or equipment."
"The majority of break-ins have been from people simply leaving their vehicles unlocked," Diehl said.
Diehl said footage of the suspect was obtained from a resident's home doorbell camera, though the individual could not be identified due to "poor picture quality."
"We are working diligently to resolve this situation," Diehl said. "We currently have leads that we are investigating, although we are unable to release any names at this time."
To prevent further thefts, police said residents should keep all belongings inside the home as well as locking the doors for their vehicle and home.
Diehl said he urges residents to be on the lookout for suspicious individuals, vehicles or activity and to immediately report it to the Patton Police Department office at 814-674-3650.
