Area COVID-19 numbers improve

By William Kibler 2 min read

As it did last week, Friday's update of the state's early-warning COVID-19 dashboard showed definitive improvement in local conditions.

In all six local counties, the number of new cases, the number of new cases per 100,000 residents or incidence rate, the test positivity rate and the average daily hospitalization count all dropped -- except that Blair Countty's test positivity rate remained the same.

The most consistent improvements were in Centre County, which had the largest drop in new cases, down 47 to 53; the lowest incidence rate, with 32 cases per 100,000 residents; and the lowest positivity rate, at 3.7 percent.

The biggest drop in positivity was in Cambria, by 2.8 percentage points, to 4.1 percent.

The biggest drop in average daily hospitalizations was also in Cambria, down 7.6, bringing the average number of patients in the hospital there to 25.

And for the first time in weeks, local positivity rates fell below that metric's threshold of concern, which is 5 percent: Cambria's is now at 4.1 percent; and Huntingdon's is now at 4.2 percent.

Bedford County's positivity remained the highest among local counties, though the rate fell 1.1 points to 8.1 percent.

The local numbers for the week:

Blair: Confirmed new cases down 27 to 119; incidence rate, down 22 to 97 new cases per 100,000 residents; positivity, same as last week at 6.7 percent; average daily hospitalizations, down 6.8 patients to 21.

Bedford: New cases, down 2 to 35; incidence, down 4 to 73 cases per 100,000; positivity, down 1.1 points to 8.1 percent.

Cambria: New cases, down 43 to 93; incidence rate, down 33 to 71; positivity, down 2.8 points to 4.1 percent; daily hospitalizations, down 7.6 to 25.

Centre: New cases, down 47 to 53; incidence, down 29 to 32; positivity, down 1.8 points to 3.7 percent; hospitalizations, down 3 to 12 patients per day.

Clearfield: New cases, down 32 to 51; incidence, down 40 to 64; positivity, down 0.7 points to 5.9 percent; hospitalizations, down 4.2 to 9.9 patients per day.
