HARRISBURG -- Three central Pennsylvania airports will receive grants from the state Department of Transportation, Gov. Tom Wolf announced Wednesday.
The Bedford County Airport's grant of $187,500 is the largest of the three grants. It will be used to replace the floor in its first unit hangar built in 1991.
The Altoona-Blair County Airport and the John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airports each will receive $100,000 grants.
The Altoona-Blair County Airport's grant is designated for construction of a corporate hangar, a pending project.
The John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport is expected to use its grant for additional upgrades of its passenger terminal, including energy efficiencies.
"These investments will help Pennsylvania's airports operate safely, expand to meet current demands and sustain growth well into the future," Wolf said in the announcement.
In addition to grants for Bedford, Blair and Cambria airports, the state also designated grants for nine additional airports located in Allegheny, Bucks, Cumberland, Jefferson, Lehigh, Lycoming, Venango and Westmoreland counties.
Collectively, the airports were awarded $10 million that will be funded through PennDOT's Aviation Transportation Assistance Program.
