Michael Leonard of 16th Avenue, is running for City Council on the Democratic ballot.
The 42-year-old is employed as the safety director at Altoona Pipe and Steel.
He attended the Scotland School for Veterans' Children in Chambersburg and Altoona Area High School.
"I am running for City Council because I want to be able to affect real change in this city," he said. "For too long, the average Altoona resident has been ignored. Parks and recreation are being removed because the city doesn't want to fund the projects."
"Affordable and quality housing is becoming more scarce. Quality, well-paying jobs are becoming a thing of the past," Leonard said.
"Our city doesn't currently offer the amenities to retain residents or attract new people/jobs to the area. I love this city and I want to see it become a city we can all be proud of."
