Bedford County teacher accused of assaulting student
Sines allegedly touched girl
Police arrested a Bedford County charter school teacher Thursday after discovering several inappropriate emails he allegedly sent to a 12-year-old student, Bedford County Court documents stated.
Buffalo Mills-resident Robert L. Sines, 46, was arraigned Thursday by Magisterial District Judge Tonya Osman on charges of sexual contact with a student, corruption of minors, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old and unlawful contact of a minor, according to court documents.
Pennsylvania State Police reviewed several emails Sines allegedly sent one of his students in February and March. The emails were revealed by an independent investigation conducted by Hope for Hyndman charter school in Hyndman, according to state police.
In a February email, Sines allegedly tells the victim she will be asked questions about whether he is “touching” her, presumably by school staff, a criminal complaint stated.
Sines allegedly promised not to hurt himself in another email, tells the student he is obsessed with her and says he knows it sounds creepy, police reported.
Additionally, Sines allegedly wrote emails about rubbing the girl’s legs and getting an erection while thinking about her in front of other people, court documents stated.
When interviewed by police, the victim said Sines would get upset if she said she was uncomfortable, police reported. On at least one occasion in March, Sines allegedly put his hand under the victim’s shirt to touch her stomach and touched her genitals over her pants, court documents stated.
After the incident, Sines allegedly sent an email, mostly written in all caps, saying he was angry and felt misled by the victim, police reported.
Sines allegedly confirmed he had an inappropriate relationship with the victim when questioned by police, court documents stated.
Unable to post his $150,000 cash bail, Sines is currently detained at Bedford County Prison, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 24 before Osman, court documents stated.
