LORETTO -- Matthew Berzonsky, an environmental engineering student at Saint Francis University, won first place at Bucknell University's virtual 2020 River Symposium undergraduate poster competition in November.
The Indiana, Pa., native's work, "Analyzing the Impact of Mine Drainage Residuals on Phosphorus Sequestration and Agricultural Production," was one of dozens of entries from local universities.
Fellow environmental engineering student, Benjamin Dumm of Ebensburg, and alumna Sarah White co-authored Berzonsky's work, along with faculty members Dr. Travis Tasker and James Eckenrode, and retired faculty member Dr. William Strosnider and Hedin Environmental founder Bob Hedin.
The annual Susquehanna River Symposium connects students with local scientists and features scientific panels and keynote speakers, along with the research poster competition, which is open to regional college and university students.
