City man faces child porn charges

Police: Search for drug trafficking evidence turns up images, videos

An Altoona man was charged with several crimes relating to child pornography stemming from an incident in 2019, and he has been jailed, according to Blair County court documents.

Jeffrey S. Snaman, 20, was arraigned Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge Ben Jones on 17 felony charges and 14 misdemeanors relating to child pornography and designing or copying obscene materials, according to court documents.

In December 2019, police responded to an attempted suicide at a residence where Snaman was staying, a criminal complaint stated.

While performing a safety sweep of the residence, police noted a hypodermic needle and a burnt, metal spoon were left in plain view.

Another individual in the residence acted suspiciously when police told him to come upstairs from the basement, after which, police discovered narcotics on the person, court documents stated.

After a search warrant for the residence was compiled, police reportedly discovered drug paraphernalia and a bag of digital storage devices, or thumb drives, in Snaman’s bedroom.

The bag of thumb drives was discovered hidden behind a radiator in Snaman’s room, and when police exited the room with the bag, Snaman allegedly said it was “just a bag of flash drives,” without being able to see what was in the bag, police reported.

At the Altoona Police Department station, officers opened files on the thumb drives in search of drug trafficking evidence, court documents stated.

In one file, they found a photo of Snaman, and in other files, they found numerous images and videos of apparent child pornography, police reported.

Once the obscene images were discovered, police reported their search ceased immediately, and they sought a new search warrant for the residence and seized devices, according to court documents.

With the new warrant, police investigated Snaman’s hard drives, thumb drives, Secure Digital cards and cellphones, which yielded the discovery of more than 1,600 images and about 125 videos of child pornography, police reported.

Police noted some of the images contained ages of the children depicted, a criminal complaint stated.

Unable to post his $100,000 cash bail, Snaman has been jailed at the Blair County Prison, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled with Jones for Feb. 10, court documents stated.
