HOLLIDAYSBURG -- The Blair County Register of Wills and Recorder of Deeds offices at the Blair County Courthouse will remain closed until Wednesday because of COVID-19. The offices were closed at noon Monday.
Limited operations and recordings will be conducted, although they might be delayed during the quarantine period, according to a news release from Anita L. Terchanik, Register and Recorder.
The Recorder of Deeds office will process documents using e-recordings, United States Postal Service, UPS and Federal Express. Terchanik has directed people to use the website -- www.blaircountyrecorder.com -- for instructions on e-filing. Delays might occur in processing these documents.
There will be no public access to search documents in the office at this time. Documents from 1942 to the present are available online by visiting the remote access program at www.landex.com/webstore.
The Register of Wills office will temporarily probate an estate on an emergency need basis and by appointment only, using FaceTime, Skype or alternate online options.
Call the office at 814-693-3095 to schedule an appointment. Original documents must be received by the office before appointments.
Inheritance tax payments that are mailed must include a copy of the statement received from the Department of Revenue, the estate file number and the name of the decedent. Receipts will be mailed using the United States Postal Service.
A drop-off box for documents has been placed at the front door of the main entrance of the courthouse. Documents must be in sealed envelopes marked "Register/Recorder's Office" with a check or money order (no cash), and a self-addressed stamped envelope for return of documents or a receipt. The drop-off box will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
