The six counties in the region set a record for new coronavirus cases Friday, with 1,118 -- 275 higher than the previous record on Dec. 5.
Cambria County had the highest number, 305, followed by Centre with 302 and Blair with 210.
There were 12,745 new COVID-19 cases statewide, 139 shy of last Saturday's record, and there was another new high for hospitalizations -- 5,877, the seventh consecutive record day for hospitalizations.
All six local counties and the state as a whole are far past the thresholds of concern for the two leading indicators of coronavirus activity that are part of the state's Early Warning Monitoring Dashboard -- 50 new cases per 100,000 residents in the past week and 5% positivity in testing.
All local counties and the state as a whole are also worse statistically in both of those categories than they were a week ago, except for Clearfield County, which was down slightly in both.
The most egregious local numbers are the incidence rate of 920 in Cambria County, 18 times the threshold level; and the positivity rate of 32.1% in Bedford County, 6.4 times the threshold level.
Blair County's incidence rate is 746 and its positivity rate 20.6%.
Bedford County's incidence rate is 882.
Cambria County's positivity rate is 21.6%.
Centre County's incidence rate is 413 and its positivity rate 12.9%.
Clearfield County's incidence rate is 550 and its positivity rate 15.8%.
Huntingdon County's incidence rate is 418 and its positivity rate 20.3%.
Pennsylvania's incidence rate is 471 and its positivity rate 16.2% -- up from last week's 14.4%.
The number of deaths in area long-term care facilities is 272.
The long-term care facilities thus account for 56% of the area's total of 483 deaths.
There have been 2,438 COVID-19 cases in 86 long-term care facilities.
There have been 338 employee cases in those facilities.
