LORETTO -- Saint Francis University is commemorating a 50-year employee for her many years of devotion to students and the university.

A newly constructed basketball training facility was named for Maureen Malloy, who has served the school as its assistant director of dining services since 1970.

SFU alumni Steve Rogers and Jean Payne-Rogers are the benefactors who donated the money that turned a racquetball court in the Maurice Stokes Athletics Center into a facility that recognizes Malloy's contribution to students. Jean Payne-Rogers proposed the idea.

"Once we started talking about 'Who can we name the room after?' 'Who can we honor?' it was a no-brainer to have it named after Mo (Malloy)," Payne-Rogers said.

While the new Maureen "Mo" Malloy Basketball Performance Center has been open for students since the start of the fall semester, the university, benefactors and student-athletes finally got the chance to properly celebrate its opening on Oct. 21.
