Local leaders react

U.S. Rep. John Joyce, R-13th District

“Over six days ago, Congressman (John) Joyce rode on Air Force One and met briefly with the president. (On Friday,) out of an abundance of caution, Congressman Joyce was tested for COVID-19 by the Capitol’s Office of Attending Physician. Dr. Brian Patrick Monahan has informed Congressman Joyce that the results were negative. Congressman Joyce and his wife continue to keep President Trump and the first lady in their prayers and wish them both a speedy recovery.” — Emma Thomson, Joyce communications director

Jim Foreman, chairman of the Blair County Republican Committee:

“We hope he makes a full recovery along with the first lady.”

In responding to how fellow local Republicans have reacted, Foreman said, “I think people were surprised to hear and were concerned. People are hopeful and prayerful that he recovers, regardless of political affiliation.”

Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., on Twitter:

“COVID-19 is a serious illness that has impacted millions of American families. I wish President Trump and first lady Melania Trump a speedy recovery following their positive tests. I will keep them in my prayers.”

Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., on Twitter:

“Sending along best wishes to President Trump and the first lady on a full and speedy recovery.”
