HOLLIDAYSBURG -- Blair County is on the verge of mailing out 16,000 absentee and mail-in ballots this week, Commissioner Amy Webster said Tuesday.
For the June 2 primary, the county had about 12,400 applications for absentee and mail-in ballots, an option voters embraced to lessen their potential for COVID-19 exposure.
For the Nov. 3 election, voters who asked for absentee and mail-in ballots in the primary can expect to receive them again, unless they canceled their requests before ballots were mailed.
Because the county continues to receive and process applications, it will be mailing more ballots later.
The deadline for requesting an absentee or mailed ballot is 5 p.m. Oct. 27, Webster said. Because that's only a week before the election, she urges voters not to wait until the last minute to apply.
The county, as of Tuesday, had a photograph posted on its website, www.blairco.org, showing what the envelope containing the mailed ballot will look like.
The county's website also now contains sample ballots for every county voting precinct.
Commissioners Chairman Bruce Erb also mentioned that those receiving ballots by mail still have the option of voting in person.
For those who do that, Webster recommended that they take "everything" to their polling place, including the unmarked mailed ballot, its secrecy envelope and the return mailing envelope.
