HOLLIDAYSBURG -- Blair County voters who mail their ballots by Nov. 3 will have their votes counted toward the total, as long as their ballots arrive in the county's elections office by 5 p.m. Nov. 6.
That's based on current court rulings, solicitor Nathan Karn said Tuesday when addressing commissioners about the recent increase in litigation challenging rules associated with the Nov. 3 election.
"If something changes, then we'll change," Karn said.
The U.S. Supreme Court, in a 4-4 ruling last week, lacked enough votes to keep Pennsylvania counties from accepting and counting ballots arriving by mail through Nov. 6.
While the ruling failed to address additional legal questions associated with challenges to the state's election procedures, it has prompted more challenges, including a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in Johnstown.
In July, Blair County commissioners voted in favor of joining with other counties to depend on the law offices of Babst, Calland, Clements & Zomnir of Pittsburgh as their representative in the election-related lawsuits.
