CLEARFIELD -- A Howard man who was the subject of a manhunt after the murder of a Clearfield woman has died.
According to information supplied by Clearfield County District Attorney Ryan Sayers, Anthony Grant Boone, 36, passed away Tuesday at UPMC Altoona, where he was being treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A determination was made Tuesday that Boone was not going to be able to recover from his injury and "Mr. Boone was removed from life-support and passed away shortly thereafter," Sayers said.
Boone was accused of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend, Rebecca Solt, 40, who had been staying with a friend at a residence in Hyde, Lawrence Township, on
Aug. 27.
Boone then fled the area and became the subject of a manhunt that lasted until the next day when he was spotted near the Old Erie Pike not far from the Clearfield Curwensville Highway.
After Boone was surrounded by law enforcement, he was asked to drop the long rifle he was carrying that was believed to be the murder weapon.
"Instead, Mr. Boone, with the rifle pointed at himself, discharged the weapon causing a .308 round to hit his upper torso," Sayers said.
"While Mr. Boone will not get to answer for his crimes in a courtroom in Clearfield County, I believe that justice will prevail when he gets his eternal sentence from the Great Judge," Sayers said.
Sayers also commended the efforts of local law enforcement and first responders involved in capturing Boone.
According to the affidavit in this case, a witness said she was sitting near a garage while the victim was sitting on a swing in the backyard when she heard a scream.
The witness looked to see a man holding a large firearm that he pointed and fired at the victim. He then fled.
The witness gave police a description of the man, later determined to be Boone.
Police said Solt had a protection-from-abuse order against Boone, who was her former boyfriend and the father of her youngest child. She had moved out of the home they shared two or three months before, according to the criminal complaint.
The witness told officials she had seen text messages from Boone to the victim in which he stated that when he found her, he would kill her.
