BELLWOOD -- Bellwood-Antis School Board members Thursday decided to continue with full student, in-person instruction, unless circumstances warrant a re-examination.
"We will continue with face-to-face instruction as we have been. Those parents wishing to maintain their children in our virtual program can still do so. We will alter this model if the state mandates it or if the number of COVID cases warrant a change," said Superintendent Thomas McInroy.
In August, board members, as part of a revised school reopening health and safety plan, approved using a hybrid model effective Oct. 5.
The school year began Aug. 31 with students attending classes five days a week for in-class instruction before the hybrid plan was to start. Under the plan, face-to-face instruction would transition to a blended model of instruction on Oct. 5. However, this timetable was subject to change as conditions warranted.
If implemented, the hybrid plan would have divided students into a blue group and a gold group with the blue group going to classes Monday and Tuesday with virtual learning Thursday and Friday and the gold group attending classes Thursday and Friday with virtual learning on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday will be a virtual day for all students to allow for cleaning of the schools.
"It was not our intention to go hybrid on Oct. 5. There was a lot of confusion that was a drop-dead date to go hybrid, that was not our intent," board member Jeff Nycum said at a recent meeting.
Board members also approved attendance policies for events at John R. Hayes Field at Memorial Stadium and the high school gym.
For events at John R. Hayes Field, Bellwood-Antis football players and coaching staff, band members and cheerleaders will have the opportunity to purchase four tickets each Friday at the ticket booth.
The visiting players and coaching staff will each have four tickets available for purchase at the ticket booth.
Both home and visiting fans must show IDs to enter.
Attendance procedures for varsity volleyball games in the high school gymnasium, Bellwood-Antis and visiting team volleyball players have the opportunity to purchase two tickets for each game. ID must be shown to enter.
Junior high and junior varsity parents must leave after the competition to allow for the next group of parents to enter.
Both volleyball teams are permitted in the gym, but no spectators will be allowed on the team side of the gym.
