Allegheny County resident Hannah Harley has been named the new site supervisor for The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art’s location at 1210 11th St.

Harley established and served as the inaugural director of the art residency program, Spruce Arts, in Indiana, Pa.

Harley replaces longtime Altoona site coordinator Barbara Hollander, who retired in late June.

Harley, an Indiana County native, plans to move to Blair County.

“What a beautiful place and welcoming community to now call home,” she stated in an email late Friday after the announcement. “In accepting the position as site supervisor at Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art Altoona, I was (and am) eager to carry on the legacy of SAMA Altoona and incorporate new and exciting approaches to contemporary art and programming. You can expect an influx of events and exhibitions as we move toward our 50th anniversary!”

Harley holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in photography from Park Point University, Pittsburgh, and an Master of Fine Arts in photography and related media studies from Parsons, The New School in New York.

She has also received a certificate in arts and culture strategy from the University of Pennsylvania.

Harley previously served as an adjunct professor teaching at Park Point University and the Youngstown University in Youngstown, Ohio. She has also served as curator for the Clark Gallery in Indiana, Pa.

In a news release, Director and Senior Curator Sarah Henrich said, “Hannah is a vibrant advocate for the arts and community involvement. Her depth of knowledge of contemporary artists and working with them in her previous positions offer SAMA new avenues of outreach and inclusion of both Pennsylvania and Regional artists in exhibitions featured at SAMA Altoona. I am excited to work with a dynamic, approachable and engaging individual bursting with ideas to attract community support and interest in the downtown, urban facility.”
