A 5-year-old Altoona boy has died after a crash in Clearfield County.
The accident happened late Monday night on Rolling Stone Road in Covington Township, Clearfield County, when the 2016 Ford escape in which the boy was riding struck a utility pole, according to state police in Clearfield.
State police were dispatched at 11:30 p.m. and were told by the 31-year-old woman driver that she swerved to miss an object on the road as she was traveling south.
The woman lost control of the SUV and it veered off the berm of the road and hit the pole broadside.
The SUV continued a short distance before coming to a stop on its own in the northbound lane, according to state police.
The boy died on the way to the hospital. The driver and two 10-year-old girls, who also were passengers, had only minor injuries.
Everyone in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt, state police noted.
No names have been released.
State police were assisted at the scene by Moshannon Valley, Clearfield and Karthus emergency medical services as well as firefighters from Pine Glenn, Windburne, Grassflat, Karthus and Morris Township.
