AMED on Monday extended by 90 days the deadline for Ventura Construction Services to complete the ambulance authority's new headquarters building and substation in Lakemont.
The old deadline was
Aug. 28, while the new one is Nov. 30, officials said.
It's not the company's fault that it didn't make the Aug. 28 deadline, because there were delays due to COVID-19, the acquisition of a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Services permit and the running of electrical services to the site, said AMED Executive Director Gary Watters.
Nevertheless, the resolution for the extension calls for the entire project, including punch-list items, to be finished and for there to be no additional contract costs for AMED.
As it is, waiting until the end of November to move will "create some struggles," forcing AMED to make the shift in what will likely be worse weather, adding rental costs for additional time at its temporary substation in Lakemont Park and possibly creating conflicts with Lights on the Lake, Watters indicated.
"(But) it is what it is, at this point," Watters said.
If the company fails to complete the work by Nov. 30, there would be a penalty that would be negotiated by the parties at the time, the resolution indicated.
Prior to the passage of the resolution, the board met in executive session with Ventura principal Lou Ventura and project architect Dave Albright.
