Juniata County man arrested for child porn

Sherlock

A Juniata County man is in Blair County Prison after state police allege he exchanged sexually explicit photos and videos with a 13-year-old boy.

Joshua M. Sherlock, 31, of Port Royal is accused of soliciting and sending the boy sexually explicit material in January and February 2017, when the boy was 13 and Sherlock was 28, according to charges filed by state police in Tyrone District Court.

State police began investigating the case after it was discovered the boy had been using the app Kik to message multiple men and after a forensic audit of the boy’s Apple device, state police found multiple conversations with a user named “hotjosh5.”

State police noted the internet service provider connected to “hotjosh5” was one that only serves a small number of counties that include Mifflin, Juniata, Snyder and Perry counties. From there, state police worked with local police in Mifflin County who were able to identify Sherlock as “hotjosh5” from a photo sent to the alleged victim, according to state police.

Between Jan. 27 and Feb. 1, 2017, Sherlock and the boy chatted about sex and exchanged sexually explicit videos and photos, with Sherlock telling the boy what he wanted him to send, state police contend.

The messages also showed Sherlock was aware the boy was a minor with the boy asking Sherlock if age was a problem and Sherlock responding, “no.” The boy told Sherlock he was 14 and Sherlock immediately asked for a shirtless picture.

The conversations between the boy and Sherlock became more sexually graphic, as did the photos and videos that were requested and sent, according to the charges.

Sherlock is charged with five felony counts that include unlawful contact with a minor, child pornography and disseminating obscene or sexual material to minors along with misdemeanor counts of obscene material and corruption of minors.

Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller set bail on Wednesday at $100,000 cash and Sherlock remains in Blair County Prison with a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 30.
