City man charged in connection with crash

An Altoona man who police say injured a woman in a March crash is now in jail.

Andrew A. Taylor, 42, of Altoona, was released from UPMC Altoona on Tuesday and arrested on felony aggravated assault by vehicle and related charges stemming from a March 27 crash in which he struck another vehicle and seriously injured a woman.

Police said Taylor had a dozen preloaded syringes of heroin in his vehicle and was high when he crashed. A bag of methamphetamine, $670 in cash and other drugs were found in his vehicle as well, police noted.

Along with the felony count of aggravated assault by vehicle, Taylor is also charged with DUI, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bail was set Tuesday at $75,000 by Magisterial District Judge Ben Jones. Taylor remains in Blair County Prison with a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 27.
