Conemaugh announces restrictions

Limited visiting and screenings planned

2 min read

Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, including Conemaugh Nason in Roaring Spring, has announced restricted access to its hospitals, limited visiting and is screening all people seeking to enter its facilities in response to efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Upon entering the facility, everyone -- employees, providers and contractors -- will be screened with questions regarding respiratory symptoms and travel history based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Individuals who don't pass the screening will be asked to leave the facility and seek advice from their primary care physician.

Visitors and patients who pass the screening will be provided a wristband to signal they've been screened, according to a news release from the health system. The hospital also has suspended its volunteer program, restricted some public areas and closed common areas, gift shops and self-service areas, such as the salad bar and beverage stations, from food service areas.

Visiting hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitation is limited to one screened, healthy visitor per patient until further notice.

"This is subject to immediate change if a positive COVID-19 case is detected within our immediate region and more strict precautions are recommended," spokeswoman Emily Karns stated.

Physical access for the public to the health system's buildings also are restricted. At Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, the designated entry points are the main entrance or Emergency Department entrance.

Exceptions to the policies include:

— Woman & Child Service at Conemaugh Memorial and Conemaugh Nason centers.

Only a significant other in Labor & Delivery and up to two parents or guardians in the CMMC NICU or Pediatrics.

— End of life situations.

Family members of loved ones who are at the end of life will be allowed to be with their loved ones.

All support groups and non-essential gatherings, education and large meetings have been canceled, transitioned to virtual or postponed until further notice. Worship services are suspended, but hospital clergy remain available for spiritual needs.
