City woman charged with defiant trespass

Boyle barred from entering Walmart

MARTINSBURG — An Altoona woman, who is prohibited from entering Walmart because of past incidents of retail theft, is behind bars after police said she violated the no-trespass order Walmart had filed against her and attempted to steal items from the East Freedom store.

Anna M. Boyle, 28, was arrested by Freedom Township police after Walmart security reported observing her with a cart containing 27 items on Jan. 24.

According to the charges filed by Freedom Township Assistant Police Chief Nathan Claycomb, Boyle was served a notice of trespass from Walmart on Dec. 19 and was prohibited from being on store property.

Walmart’s asset protection associate allegedly observed Boyle walk through the checkout lane without paying for the items before abandoning the cart.

When store officials searched the cart, it was discovered that Boyle allegedly altered the price of the merchandise by replacing the original price symbols with one’s from lower priced items.

When Claycomb reviewed the video from Walmart’s security camera, he was able to identify Boyle from two previous retail theft incidents he investigated.

Boyle was charged with felony retail theft and misdemeanor defiant trespass.

Boyle is also facing a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance filed by Altoona police on Jan. 15.

Boyle waived her preliminary hearing Thursday in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrew Blattenberger, sending a felony charge of retail theft and a misdemeanor charge of defiant trespass to Blair County Court.

A preliminary hearing on the possession charge is scheduled for Feb. 26 at Central Court.

Boyle remains in Blair County Prison on $10,000 cash bail.
