Tea party sets meeting on guns

Group seeks to make Blair a 2nd Amendment sanctuary

The Blair County Tea Party will discuss an effort to make Blair County a Second Amendment sanctuary at its meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 28.

The meeting will be held at the Bavarian Hall, 112 S. 13th St., and attorney Dan Kiss will speak.

The Blair County Tea Party and other community groups will circulate petitions in the coming weeks to put this question on the ballot. To get a question on the ballot, supporters must get signatures totaling more than 5 percent of the last gubernatorial vote. That would amount to more than 2,000 signatures. The group said volunteers will be needed to help circulate petitions.

Attorney Kiss will give a presentation about the process and the legal framework supporting this approach. The Blair County Tea Party will provide instruction on how to properly circulate the petitions so they can’t be challenged later. In order to be counted, all signatures must belong to people registered to vote in Blair County.

There also will be information about registering to vote if you are not already registered.

The meeting is open to the public.

Starting at $2.99/week.
