HOLLIDAYSBURG — John Patrick Stiver II was found guilty on all charges, including first-degree murder, in the July 2018 shooting death of 58-year-old David Alan Hoover.

A Blair County jury deliberated for about 90 minutes before rendering the verdicts.

Stiver, 35, has maintained since his arrest that he acted in self-defense on July 26, 2018, when he fired a shotgun from his vehicle and killed Hoover in the parking lot of Bethany Lutheran Church at Second Street and Third Avenue.

Stiver has claimed that Hoover, angry about a failed drug deal, was coming toward him in a threatening manner carrying a baseball bat. Some witnesses have said Hoover of carrying a gun too.

Police found only a baseball bat in the parking lot, which Stiver fled after the shooting, and charged Stiver with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, aggravated assault and related offenses.
