Bellwood man to face drug, gun, assault charges in court

TYRONE -- Jason D. Lynn resigned from the Bellwood-Antis School Board on Tuesday after appearing in Tyrone District Court to face drug, stolen gun and assault charges.
The 33-year-old Lynn faces charges stemming from his arrest Jan. 12 after Altoona police allegedly found a stolen shotgun in the trunk of a vehicle he owned after a woman he loaned it to was pulled over in Altoona earlier in the weekend.
When Lynn was arrested, police allegedly found an ounce of cocaine and 1.7 ounces of methamphetamine in a backpack. A subsequent search of his home at 21200 E. Fifth St. in Bellwood allegedly turned up a stolen handgun, a small amount of heroin and methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.
State police also charged Lynn and 20-year-old Mary Jayda Patterson with simple assault and harassment over an alleged domestic dispute at his home earlier on Jan. 4.
Lynn, who was elected to the Bellwood-Antis School Board in 2017, was accompanied by his attorney, Dan Kiss, on Tuesday as he waived a total of four criminal cases on to Blair County Court.
Lynn also handed a resignation letter to Bellwood-Antis Superintendent Thomas McInroy on Tuesday while at Tyrone District Court.
Kiss confirmed Lynn handed in his resignation but said he had no further comment.
McInroy said Tuesday afternoon that he accepted the resignation on behalf of the school district, and after the board votes to accept the resignation at its next regular meeting in early February, the process for choosing someone to fill the vacant position for the remainder of Lynn's term will begin. McInroy said the first step will be to advertise the vacancy, and then after a public interview of candidates, the board will choose a new member to serve out Lynn's term, which ends in November 2021.
